Cyber Monday is poised to break online shopping records

ith Cyber Monday just one week away, US shoppers are gearing up for some of the year's biggest online deal days. And this year, online retailers are poised to see a lot of money thrown around.
According to market research company Forrester, a record $78.7 billion will be spent in U.S. online shopping this holiday season. This is 15 percent more than what was spent in 2012.

The researcher forecasts that 167 million shoppers will take to the Web to buy presents, gadgets, and goods. Each person is estimated to spend an average of $472 for the holiday season. Last year, the US saw $68.4 billion in sales and the year before it was $59.5 billion.
"Strong economic growth and low unemployment rates project a healthy playing field for online holiday sales and outweigh any lingering dampening effect of the government shutdown," Forrester analyst Sucharita Mulpuru wrote in the report. "This strength is even more evident online than it is offline, as consumers continue to shift their spending to multiple digital devices from stores."

How to get your paws on Walmart's Black Friday deals

This time of year, stores are throwing sale after sale to get us to do our holiday shopping there.
And the biggest store of them all is Walmart.
So we were granted access into a Cincinnati-area Walmart to find some inside tips for grabbing the best deals before they are gone.
Pallets Full, Ready to Move Out
 Walmart
The retail giant gave us a sneak peek in their back storage area, filled to the brim with pallets of TVs, tablets, and other hot items that will all go on sale on Thanksgiving night.  It had row after row of TV's, XBox One's, iPads and other goodies.
But while shoppers may be salivating, most don't want to have to fight for these deals.
"Oh I was thinking about it, but you got to get here so early," one shopper said.  "I don't like the big crowds," said another.
So Walmart is trying to appeal to them, by take some of the craziness out of holiday shopping.
How They Are Handling Crowd Control
Walmart market manager Shane Barker said the store is spreading out its big sales every weekend till Christmas.
"So as we go through those 5 weeks we'll make sure we have the best pricing possible," he said.
On Black Friday, it has 3 separate "events" to keep crowds dispersed: 6 p.m Thursday, 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday.
Meantime, for safety, Walmart no longer allows long lines to form outside the store:  Rather, each department now sets up smaller lines, handing out wristbands to prevent scuffles over merchandise.
And Walmart for the second year in a row "one hour guarantee" on some of its deals. That way, you won't go home disappointed if they run out.
"We will make sure they get a one hour guarantee card, which will guarantee them that TV coming back to the store prior to Christmas site to store," he said.
The only catch: you have to pay for it at that time, unlike typical rain checks.
PS4 and XBox One
Meantime, store associates at Walmart say the Holy Grail this holiday season will be the XBox One and the PS4.  The good news: They will have some in stock, but the bad news is you're going to have to work to get your hands on one.
Barker says stores will be putting out these hot video consoles periodically between now and Christmas, which means to get lucky, you'll want to stop in around 8 am.
For other items, check the ad or Walmart's smartphone app: It will say if something is "guaranteed in stock," or if it's only in limited quantities.
Bottom line: It's important to know before you line up for a sale if the item is in limited quantities, or if you can get a rain check.
If you know that beforehand, you won't be disappointed and you don't waste your money.

Not Too Young, Not Too Old: Aaron Carter Hopes For Fresh Start Following Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Filing

Just over ten years ago, Aaron Carter was at the top of his game. He had a number of hit singles, including “I Want Candy” and was dating the darling of the Disney set, Hilary Duff. In great demand like his brother, Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, Carter appeared on television shows, toured extensively and even had his own action figure. It was an amazing life for a boy not even out of his teens.English: Paparazzo Presents...Aaron Carter's r...

Now, at age 25, despite efforts to make a comeback, Carter is broke. He has claimed in court documents that he has assets worth just $8,232.16 – including computer and music equipment and $60 in cash – but owes creditors more than $2 million in liabilities. A big chunk of his liabilities is owed to the Internal Revenue Service: he has an outstanding tax bill totaling $1,368,140.
Carter’s tax bills date back to 2003. In 2009, the IRS slapped Carter with a million dollar lien – the same year he appeared on the ninth season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars with professional dance partner Karina Smirnoff. Smirnoff said about the tax lien and Carter’s debts at the time, “I don’t see why he can be held responsible. He was a baby when all that… happened.”
In 2003, Carter was just 15 years ago. He was old enough to earn millions and be subject to tax but likely too young to understand his financial responsibilities. That’s what management is for, right?
Carter has a new management team now but his prior management team included Lou Pearlman. Yes, you’ve heard of him. Pearlman created Trans Continental Records and was responsible for creating the boy bands ‘NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys – big brother Nick Carter’s former band and the best-selling boy band of all time. He also dabbled in reality television, “finding” the boy band O-Town on the first season of ABC’s Making The Band (Pearlman would bow out for season two as P. Diddy took over search duties).

Mentally Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid

1.    Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves. You don’t see mentally strong people feeling sorry for their circumstances or dwelling on the way they’ve been mistreated. They have learned to take responsibility for their actions and outcomes, and they have an inherent understanding of the fact that frequently life is not fair. They are able to emerge from trying circumstances with self-awareness and gratitude for the lessons learned. When a situation turns out badly, they respond with phrases such as “Oh, well.” Or perhaps simply, “Next!”

2. Give Away Their Power. Mentally strong people avoid giving others the power to make them feel inferior or bad. They understand they are in control of their actions and emotions. They know their strength is in their ability to manage the way they respond.
3.    Shy Away from Change. Mentally strong people embrace change and they welcome challenge. Their biggest “fear,” if they have one, is not of the unknown, but of becoming complacent and stagnant. An environment of change and even uncertainty can energize a mentally strong person and bring out their best.
4. Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control. Mentally strong people don’t complain (much) about bad traffic, lost luggage, or especially about other people, as they recognize that all of these factors are generally beyond their control. In a bad situation, they recognize that the one thing they can always control is their own response and attitude, and they use these attributes well.
5. Worry About Pleasing Others. Know any people pleasers? Or, conversely, people who go out of their way to dis-please others as a way of reinforcing an image of strength? Neither position is a good one. A mentally strong person strives to be kind and fair and to please others where appropriate, but is unafraid to speak up. They are able to withstand the possibility that someone will get upset and will navigate the situation, wherever possible, with grace.
It takes much practice to hone mental strength
6. Fear Taking Calculated Risks. A mentally strong person is willing to take calculated risks. This is a different thing entirely than jumping headlong into foolish risks. But with mental strength, an individual can weigh the risks and benefits thoroughly, and will fully assess the potential downsides and even the worst-case scenarios before they take action.
7. Dwell on the Past. There is strength in acknowledging the past and especially in acknowledging the things learned from past experiences—but a mentally strong person is able to avoid miring their mental energy in past disappointments or in fantasies of the “glory days” gone by. They invest the majority of their energy in creating an optimal present and future.
8. Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over. We all know the definition of insanity, right? It’s when we take the same actions again and again while hoping for a different and better outcome than we’ve gotten before. A mentally strong person accepts full responsibility for past behavior and is willing to learn from mistakes. Research shows that the ability to be self-reflective in an accurate and productive way is one of the greatest strengths of spectacularly successful executives and entrepreneurs.
9. Resent Other People’s Success. It takes strength of character to feel genuine joy and excitement for other people’s success. Mentally strong people have this ability. They don’t become jealous or resentful when others succeed (although they may take close notes on what the individual did well). They are willing to work hard for their own chances at success, without relying on shortcuts.
10. Give Up After Failure. Every failure is a chance to improve. Even the greatest entrepreneurs are willing to admit that their early efforts invariably brought many failures. Mentally strong people are willing to fail again and again, if necessary, as long as the learning experience from every “failure” can bring them closer to their ultimate goals.
11. Fear Alone Time. Mentally strong people enjoy and even treasure the time they spend alone. They use their downtime to reflect, to plan, and to be productive. Most importantly, they don’t depend on others to shore up their happiness and moods. They can be happy with others, and they can also be happy alone.
12. Feel the World Owes Them Anything. Particularly in the current economy, executives and employees at every level are gaining the realization that the world does not owe them a salary, a benefits package and a comfortable life, regardless of their preparation and schooling. Mentally strong people enter the world prepared to work and succeed on their merits, at every stage of the game.

13. Expect Immediate Results. Whether it’s a workout plan, a nutritional regimen, or starting a business, mentally strong people are “in it for the long haul”. They know better than to expect immediate results. They apply their energy and time in measured doses and they celebrate each milestone and increment of success on the way. They have “staying power.” And they understand that genuine changes take time. Do you have mental strength? Are there elements on this list you need more of? With thanks to Amy Morin, I would like to reinforce my own abilities further in each of these areas today. How about you?

JPMorgan agrees to $13 billion mortgage settlement

JPMorgan has agreed to a $13 billion settlement over mortgage-backed securities sold ahead of the financial crisis, officials announced Tuesday.

New York AG holds JPM 'accountable'

The Justice Department called the agreement "the largest settlement with a single entity in American history.
At issue are allegations that JPMorgan and firms it later purchased, Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual, sold risky mortgage securities during the housing bubble while misrepresenting their quality. These securities later failed in huge numbers, playing a key role in the 2008 crisis.
"Without a doubt, the conduct uncovered in this investigation helped sow the seeds of the mortgage meltdown," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.
As part of the agreement, JPMorgan admitted to making "serious misrepresentations" to investors in mortgage-backed securities, the Justice Department said.
Bank executives were at pains to emphasize that they had not admitted to any specific violation of the law during a conference call with analysts Tuesday. Such an admission would provide ammunition for private lawsuits.
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said in a statement the firm was "pleased to have concluded this extensive agreement."

G4S to pay £23m for tag overcharging

Personal protection organization G4S has decided to repay £23.3m after acknowledging the way it charged the UK govt for labeling violators was "not appropriate".But G4S was adamant its own evaluation into the issue had found no proof of lying or legal perform.

The audit by accounting organization Pricewaterhouse Coopers - which had been released in May - claimed the asking for differences had began at least as far returning as the start of the present agreements, in 2005, but could have old returning to the past agreements in 1999.

G4S said an separate evaluation of the agreement, run by law organization Linklaters, revealed it had incorrectly regarded itself contractually eligible to invoice the govt when devices had not been fixed or after it had been eliminated.

In a declaration G4S said: "This payments exercise, which the organization considers was limited to the digital tracking agreement for Britain and Wales, was not reliable with the agreement or G4S's principles and the organization has apologised to the MoJ and released credit notices adding up to £23.3m for quantities incorrectly charged between 2005 and May 2013."
